Fight the H8 in Your State

Diversions: Jeff Flint and Geoff Kors on the phone:

And a friend suggested I check out "Ejector":

And here's KO on Prop 8's passage:

Equality Utah is resurrecting and drafting new legislation for the 2009 session.

The group is hoping to use recent statements made by the LDS Church to get these bills passed.

During the Proposition 8 campaign in California, the LDS Church issued this statement:

“The Church does not object to rights (already established in California) regarding hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment rights, or probate rights, so long as these do not infringe on the integrity of the family or the constitutional rights of churches."

It's gratifying to see Equality Utah moving to take advantage of the ground that was gained in the course of the Prop 8 battle.

I love that UCC ad. *That's* what a Church should be about.

BTW, the kid in that video got it wrong. The text doesn't say "ONE man and ONE woman" it says "A man and A woman". The M*rm*ns wanted to leave a loophole open...

Reuven,

btw, a couple of things to consider once we complete our month of nationwide protests:

1) The BYU sports and performing arts away/visiting schedule. BYU teams/squads/troupes that are scheduled to compete or perform outside Utah should expect to be met with protests.

2) Utah state law. The Mormon church has now gone on record stating it is not opposed to civil unions, domestic partnerships or other rights for gays. The case needs to be made that Utah law should reflect this.

Chino:

While I really don't like protesting sports teams (the kids that went to BYU may not have had much of a choice) it will be very effective!

There will always be a group on nearly every college campus ready to demonstrate.

A question for you:

What do you think the M*rm*n's real goal is? I suspect this isn't really about Gay Marriage.

A couple of theories:

1. Just a step to World Domination

or

2. They particularly dislike homosexuality because it's one of the to 10 reasons young people leave the "Church" as soon as they can get out of the house!

(If they insist on putting "marriage" in sneer quotes, I'll put "church" in sneer quotes.)

There was a statement by some M*rm*n leader (I can't find the source), that since the Majority of people voted "yes" then they must be right. I'm tempted to get a law barring extra-marital sex on the ballot. And when it fails to pass, we can proclaim: See! Adultery is just fine! A majority of CA voters say so.

And! You're right about that SLC Trib article being a must read! What a hoot! Now they have to backpedal.

Hey Chino,

In LA it took me an hour and a half to complete a "quick run" to my girlfriends house. It should have taken 15 minutes. Protests shut down all the major streets with police car barricades. It was fabulous!

If the other half wasn't in the hospital, I would have been there, documenting in detail! Looks like it's November 15th for me in Portland, Oregon!
